In May 2025, Save Myanmar Film had the privilege of participating in the two-day conference “Dialogue with Audiovisual Preservation Practice in India and Myanmar,” hosted by Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA) in Taiwan. Our representatives, Okkar and May Zin Myo, joined film archiving students from TNNUA and fellow archivists from Northeast India in a vibrant exchange of ideas, experiences, and preservation techniques.

This gathering marked a significant opportunity to share the work being done in Myanmar to preserve our rich audiovisual heritage. At the conference, we presented our current archiving projects, spoke on the unique challenges we face in Myanmar, and emphasized the importance of community awareness and cross-border collaboration. What made the dialogue truly meaningful was the shared commitment among all participants: to safeguard cultural memory and ensure that future generations can access and learn from the past. From India to Myanmar to Taiwan, it was inspiring to see how different communities are tackling similar challenges with creativity, dedication, and a deep love for film and history. We’re thankful to TNNUA for hosting such an engaging and inclusive event, and to our fellow archivists for their openness and insights. This is only the beginning of many conversations we hope to continue—because when we share knowledge and work together, preservation becomes not just a practice, but a movement.
