From 15–18 June 2026, Save Myanmar Film (SMF) participated in the 3rd edition of GAVA (Global Audiovisual Archiving Conference) in Thailand, joining the roundtable discussion “Myanmar Film Heritage, Local Activation and International Collaboration.”
The discussion highlighted SMF’s recent preservation initiatives, including a film preservation workshop held in Yangon in December 2025 with the support of an international team of experts. SMF expressed its sincere appreciation to Lisabona, Mengchun, Martino, Linh Anh, Sanchai, Chalida, and Karen for their invaluable contributions. Their support ranged from securing funding and coordinating international partnerships to providing technical training and sourcing essential archival materials that are unavailable in Myanmar.
During the workshop, participants received hands-on training in film inspection, repair, digitization workflows, storage planning, and basic colour grading. The opportunity to view the digitized results of their own films alongside the trainers made the learning experience especially meaningful. As a small independent organization, Save Myanmar Film is proud to strengthen local capacity for the long-term preservation and digitization of Myanmar’s film heritage through international collaboration. These partnerships have laid an important foundation for future preservation and restoration projects.
